4. Enrollment (for the 2013/14 school year)
Admissions to intake grades (6 and 9) is by lottery and wait-list that develops from the lottery.
Entry to other grades (7, 8, and 10) will be through perpetual wait-list, waitlist that rollover from year to year following intake lotteries.
We will not take in new students in grades 11-12.
To enter your student on our wait-list (if s/he entered our lottery, s/he will automatically move to the wait-list if a seat is not available at the time of the lottery), please complete the linked waitlist form.
Seats will be filled from our wait-list on a rolling basis as they become available. Siblings of current Brooklyn Prospect students will be granted preference (a sibling is defined as a student who shares a biological parent or a legal guardian of a current Brooklyn Prospect student).
Please be aware of the following:
- Brooklyn Prospect main campus is located in Brooklyn's Community School District 15
- Based on legislation passed in 2007*, all New York City charter schools must give preference to students residing in the School District (CSD) in which the charter school is located. However, students who reside outside of our school district are eligible to apply and may be admitted if space permits
- To exercise district preference, student applicants must reside in school district 15 and must provide proof of district residency. The student's elementary school does not determine middle school district. To check your school district (CSD) please enter your home address at this website: http://gis.nyc.gov/dcp/at/f1.jsp
- For our April 2013 lottery, we will only accept applications from students who will enter the 6th,7th 8th, 9th and 10th grades in the fall of 2013. The majority of our openings will be in 6th grade and 9th grades.
- Because we are a charter school, signing your student up for Brooklyn Prospect's lottery will not affect the NYC Department of Education (NYC DOE) middle school process. The two processes are separate, and seats can be offered from both Brooklyn Prospect and the NYC DOE concurrently.
- In our lottery we offer sibling preference to students who share a biological parent or a legal guardian with a current Brooklyn Prospect student. If you are currently a Brooklyn Prospect family and wish to enroll a sibling of your BP student, please submit a completed application and send an email (admissions@brooklynprospect.org) no later than March 30, 2013, informing us that you would like to enroll a sibling in the 2013-14 school year.
- If your son or daughter has an IEP, Brooklyn Prospect will work with the student’s Committee on Special Education to accommodate the student and his/her individual learning needs.
- Services are available to support children who are English Language Learners (ELL).
