Letter from the High School Principal:
I am delighted to welcome the BPCS class of 2016 to high school! As we open the doors to our new facility and welcome our founding 9th grade class, a spirit of excitement and adventure is in the air and at the doors to our journey through high school! A seven-year program, we welcome both returning and new students to our growing community.
Our high school is a wonderfully diverse community of students, families, teachers and staff. Some of us have been with Brooklyn Prospect since the doors first opened in 2009, and others have joined the team more recently. Together we blend a mix of experiences that will help shape the future of our high school, a program grounded in the tradition of academic excellence that BPCS middle school has established since its opening.
To help our students prepare for success as global citizens, Brooklyn Prospect High School strives to develop a love of learning by pairing students with excellent teachers in a college preparatory environment using the pillars of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Specifically, all 9th and 10th grade students are enrolled in the IB Middle Years program (IBMYP) in which they receive a rigorous, globally-minded academic program that equips students for both the NY Regents exam and continued study in the IB Diploma program (IBDP) in 11th and 12th grade.
Outside of the classroom, like our middle school, we work to build a host of extra-curricular activities that reflect the interests and develop the talents of our community. Clubs will begin in early October; so do keep an eye out for information on this front! We also encourage our 9th graders to consider trying out for girls' volleyball or boys' rugby this fall.
The transition to high school is a big step for any student. At Brooklyn Prospect, our advisory program, school culture team and counseling program work alongside our students to help them adjust to the increased academic demands of high school while assisting students in preparing for the next steps in their educational careers. I am also personally delighted to serve as a 9th grade advisor this year!
Thank you for taking the time to explore our BPCS teacher pages. Working together, we look forward to an exciting first year of high school!
