SNAP Benefits Update
Dear Prospect Schools Families,
We are writing to you with both frustration and deep sadness about the federal government's decision to allow SNAP benefits to expire tomorrow. This will impact millions of families across the nation, including many right here in NYC, in Brooklyn and within our Prospect community who depend on this essential support to feed their children and families.
We want you to know we are committed to supporting Prospect families impacted. We are taking action to ensure families have access to the resources and organizations that are standing up food distribution.
What You Can Expect From Us:
Starting early next week, we will provide families with a comprehensive list of local organizations offering food distribution and other support services. Families will be able to access this information in two ways:
- Weekly emails with updated resources and information sent from each school
- Printed copies available at the front desk of each school
Additionally, we are actively in communication with several community partners to coordinate support efforts, and we will keep you informed about any new resources or assistance programs as they become available. These communications will continue for as long as SNAP benefits remain interrupted.
How You Can Reach Out:
If you or your family are experiencing challenges, please do not hesitate to contact your school's social work team. They are here to provide personalized support and connect you with resources that can help.

Ways to Support Our Community:
We know we also have families in our community who are interested in providing help and support. In the immediate the best way to help is by providing support directly to organizations standing up operations around our school communities this includes;
- Donate food or monetary donations to food banks, community fridges and organizations running collections
- Provide support to Mutual Aid NYC: https://mutualaid.nyc/
- Advocacy actions with your local representative to both stand up food distribution sites and to use their voice to demand that SNAP be reinstated: https://5calls.org/issue/wic-snap-benefits-goverment-shutdown/
We know this situation creates real hardship and uncertainty for families. Please know that we stand with our families during this moment.
