Fairmont Creamery Developer Nears Finish Line on New Project

More than 80 new apartment units are slated to rise in a part of Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood, writes Jordyn Grzelewski for The Plain Dealer, where real-estate group Sustainable Community Associates has developed a sizable portfolio of rental housing, offices and retail space.

The group is now in the design phase for The Lincoln, a mixed-use project that will be built on vacant land at the corner of Scranton Road and Willey Avenue. The building will feature 82 residential units, first-floor commercial space that SCA hopes to lease to a restaurant, and a fourth-floor club room and patio. The site will include 128 parking spaces, most in an underground garage.

SCA is led by principals Naomi Sabel, Josh Rosen and Ben Ezinga, who completed their first project in downtown Oberlin after graduating from college there. The real-estate group first put down a foothold in Tremont seven years ago.

The developers see The Lincoln as a continuation of what they started with the conversion in 2014 of the Fairmont Creamery building into apartments and offices. Between that project, the conversion of the former Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Co. factory on Scranton into apartments, and the soon-to-be-complete mixed-use Tappan project at Scranton and Auburn Avenue, they hope to help create a denser, more vibrant corridor, not far from MetroHealth Medical Center’s ongoing $1 billion campus transformation.

“You can kind of imagine a situation where, five years from now, Scranton looks much improved from what it looks like today and from what it looked like five years ago,” Rosen said.
