Nurturing Curiosity, Inspiring Growth

At Prospect Schools, our elementary students aren't just learners; they're curious thinkers who embrace the journey of discovery. We celebrate questions, recognizing them as stepping stones to both individual and collective learning.
Our elementary schools provide an exceptional learning environment.

Day in the Life

Elementary School

Each morning students are welcomed to school, some on foot or scooter and others on the bus.

Students start their day with a Morning Circle/Meeting. This unique practice at our elementary schools creates opportunities for students to talk with their peers to build social and emotional connections, develop their communication and critical thinking skills, and go over the day’s schedule to get ready for learning.

Snack is an important time each day for students to stay energized, take a thinking break and engage in social conversations with their peers.

Prospect Schools literacy program is based in either science or social studies topics. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills by understanding them as tools to understand our world. Students build background knowledge and vocabulary on a real world concept and practicing their speaking and listening skills to process a complex concept like how clouds form. )

Aligning to the Science of Reading, our schools ensure that our students get foundational reading skills by the end of second grade to support reading to learn.

In our lower school (K-2), math lessons are game-based and follow an inquiry model: students play the game first, then teachers lead a discussion to surface new understanding

In kindergarten, students focus on counting fluency and delve into addition & subtraction

Phonics instruction teaches students the correlation between sounds and letters of the alphabet. Prospect schools aligns its curriculum to the Science of Reading, which is an approach grounded in the latest research showing the effectiveness of teaching reading through the five pillars of  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. At all our elementary schools, students have outdoor play time for recess (weather permitting). We believe students benefit from unstructured play so they can enjoy social moments, develop motor skills, and learn to navigate peer relationships with independence.

Choice time is a socio-emotional learning time when students engage in free play activities with their peers. Teachers support student conversations as the need arises to discuss topics like sharing.

Prospect Schools believes in a holistic approach to childhood development which is why everyday students' explorations go beyond the core subjects. Starting in kindergarten, Prospect students learn Spanish, Science, Visual Arts, and music or performing arts.

World-Class Curriculum

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) forms the foundation of our teaching, fostering inquiry and a global perspective.
