Today we are overjoyed to share that the “youngest” elementary school in our network — to date known as Windsor Terrace Elementary School — will be moving to its forever home this summer. As such, the school will be renamed Brooklyn Prospect Sunset Yards Elementary School. The Sunset Yards name reflects the unique community the school will join while also speaking to the special mix of history and industry that defines its new neighborhood.
Sunset Yards Elementary School will be located at 341 39th Street in Brooklyn and serve grades K-2 with 15 light-filled classrooms, play space, a cafeteria, a library, and a multipurpose room that can be used for indoor play and large gatherings. Some of this space will continue to be developed after the school moves in this summer, as it grows by a grade each year to serve more students. There are also several parks and green spaces nearby that the school has been exploring for outdoor play options.
Situated just two blocks from the D, N, R express stop at 36th Street and easily accessible to the B35, B37, B63 and B70 bus lines, Sunset Yards Elementary offers ample transportation options for families. And, because Prospect Schools serves students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, we always keep the full K-12 experience in mind when choosing facilities like this one. That’s why we’re thrilled to have found such a great home in District 15 located just a few blocks down 4th Avenue from the future site of our middle school on 17th street, which will be completed next year.
Thumbs up for Sunset Yards Elementary School!
