The Plain Dealer: “Ohio Awning building in Tremont set for apartment redo”

A 150-year-old Cleveland manufacturer plans to move next year, writes Michelle Jarboe for The Plain Dealer, making way for an apartment revamp of its historic building in the Tremont neighborhood.

On Tuesday, Ohio Awning & Manufacturing Co. sold its longtime home and nearby land to Sustainable Community Associates, a trio of young developers preparing to take on their third project.

The real estate, which spans four corners at Scranton Road and Auburn Avenue, is almost equidistant from the West Side Market and MetroHealth Medical Center, on a gap-toothed corridor where investments are brewing.

"There's a lot of stuff happening quietly here that people don't realize," said City Councilman Joe Cimperman, whose ward includes the project site. "I guarantee you I'm going to have other conversations soon about land on Scranton. These guys are recognizing how important it is to be on the front end of the development momentum."
